Lanny (Butch) Taylor of Quinlan, Texas, left this world on August 15, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.  He was born October 6, 1947, in Greenville, Texas to Glen and Joy Taylor.

Butch grew up in the Mesquite, Texas area and worked with his father in construction from an early age.  He started his career in the HVAC profession in 1965 and owned several HVAC companies, with the last being Mesquite Heating and Air Conditioning from 1987 to 2014 when he retired.

Butch’s passion was drag racing his purple Plymouth and won several titles.  His team was Taylormade Racing. He also loved classic Ford cars and was frequently seen in several Quinlan Christmas Parades in his 1963 ½ Ford Galaxy Fastback.

He enjoyed hosting parties for his family and friends and was a true family man who was loved by all.   Butch told the best “Little Johnny” Jokes and had a contagious smile and laugh that lit up the room.  He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.  George Jones was his favorite singer, and he could sing every song without missing any of the lyrics, and oftentimes made up his own lyrics.  He had many pets throughout his life but his favorite was his Rosie Girl, which was a Father’s Day present from his daughter.

Butch will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 28 years, Patti, daughters Cheri (Tom), Edie La Costa, Becca (Bryan), and sons Matt (Brooklyn), and David (Anna).  Also missing him will be his sisters Glenda (Roger) and Kay.  He has nine grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gail, grandson Justin, granddaughter Stephanie, and great-grandson Connor.

A Celebration of Butch’s life will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Quinlan located at 1209 E. Quinlan Parkway, Quinlan, Texas 75474 on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM.

To honor Butch, the family also asks you to wear something purple.
