Helen Louise Ivey was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor during her 85 years of life. Helen passed away the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.
Born in Greenville, Texas on Jan. 5, 1940, she met the love of her life Billy Joe Ivey, at church in Peniel and was married to him on June 1, 1957, at the age of 17. Helen traveled with her husband to Fort Polk and Oklahoma. They lived on the army base before moving back to Greenville.
Helen practiced and perfected her craftsmanship to create and design custom wedding dresses and also worked at Sears. She was hired on to E-Systems, where she worked for over 30 years. She worked during the days and took night classes to gain her degree in business and graduated from LeTourneau University at 50 years old before retiring.
Helen loved to sew and took up painting as a hobby while surviving breast cancer in her 30s. She loved to travel and plan trips with her husband and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing the piano, was the best gift giver and always wrapped the most creative packages with the most beautiful bows. Helen never missed a birthday or special occasion for family or friends and loved to celebrate others. She was a ruthless card player and loved playing card games with her family, neighbors and friends.
Helen loved her family, adored her neighbors and friends and enjoyed following and celebrating her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s successes.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie Strayhorn Glen and T. Glen, husband, Billy Joe Ivey, sister, Delorias Halliburton, and stepbrother, TJ Glen.
Helen is survived by her siblings, Charlie Glen, Redith Halliburton and Elizabeth Ann McGee, son, Sid Ivey and his wife, Amy Ivey, grandchildren, Lauren Hewitt and her husband, Matt Hewitt, Samantha and Gavin Ivey, and great-grandchildren, Mattison and Myla Hewitt.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville, Texas. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. until service time.
