John Henry Smith, age 76, of Quinlan, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025. Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Ingram Funeral Home with burial in Simmons Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service.
John Henry Smith was born on June 13, 1948, in Conroe, Texas, to the late Mr. Henry Emerson Smith and Ada Mae Bender Smith. He was raised in Conroe, where he attended Anderton Elementary. John married Linda Sue Lindsey on July 12, 1976, in Dallas, Texas. John drove an 18-wheeler and was a hard worker. He was promoted to assistant supervisor for the City of Dallas Public Works Department. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed playing board games, cards, and dominos with friends and family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed pulling pranks and telling jokes. He loved playing with and hearing the laughter of children. John loved helping others and had the heart of a servant. He desired to retire early and help others with tasks they needed done. He wanted to provide grocery shopping, yard work, and rides to doctor appointments for those in need. There is no greater legacy than one of compassion and kindness.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Smith of Quinlan; daughters, Tarenda Hull of Mesquite and Patricia Preas of Quinlan; grandchildren, Jefferye Carr and husband Joshua of Forney; Rabert Smith of Forney; Zachary Smith and spouse Haley Erjavae of Allen; Kyle Couch of Quinlan; Seighlee McCally and husband Lane of Shepherd, MT; and Seth Preas of Grand Prairie, bonus granddaughter; Vera Smith of Quinlan; great grandchildren, Robert Smith Jr. of Forney; Olivia Couch of Quinlan; and Brooklyn and Emmitt Carr both of Forney.
He was preceded in death by Henry and Ada Smith, Mary Bee Solamon, LouBell Ashton, Lilly Kirby, and Jean Martin.
