Sylvia Janine Walton, 86, of Greenville, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025. She was born on September 14, 1938, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Bruce Edward Harnish and Mary Erma (Williams) Harnish.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sylvia’s life was defined by her deep faith, her generous heart, and her love for family and community. A member of Christ Community Church, her spiritual journey deepened while living in Ft. Greely, Alaska, where she and her husband Thomas were moved by the Holy Spirit and gave their lives to Christ — a pivotal moment that shaped the rest of their lives.

Sylvia was known for her warmth, hospitality, and extraordinary cooking. Her kitchen was a place of love, where family, friends, and neighbors gathered to enjoy her famous coconut cream pie and chocolate cream pie and countless other baked delights. In Alaska, she even shared her talents on a local cooking show, spreading joy and comfort through her passion for food.

She was actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, serving as a Den Mother for her sons’ Cub Scout troops and teaching in a bowling league — a sport she loved and excelled in. Sylvia served as a volunteer at Save-A-Life. She was also whip smart and was in a league of her own at trivia and word games.

Sylvia recently celebrated 66 years of marriage with the love of her life, Thomas Walton, on March 8, 2025. She is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas; sons Bruce Walton (Stephanie) and Tom Walton (Lisa); grandchildren Stephen Walton (Brianna), Scott Walton (Sarah), David Walton (Emily), Mitchell Walton, and Parker Walton (Hanna); and great-granddaughters Emberli Walton and Khya Walton. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Alice Burchett, along with a host of extended family and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nancy Coolidge.

Sylvia’s legacy is one of faith, love, generosity and hospitality. She will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.

A family led memorial service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Christ Community Church in Greenville, Texas.
