Gloria Charlene Melton, “Booby”, of West Tawakoni, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 66 on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Greenville, TX. A walk of life was held at Hunt Regional Medical Center on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 8pm to honor her selfless choice to be an organ donor. A memorial service will be held at Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at noon.
Gloria was born on December 5, 1958, in Fort Worth, Texas to James Edwin Sherrod and Juanita Prather Forbus. She was raised in Dallas as a child and moved to Irving as a teen. She was a hardworking woman her whole life and held many different jobs over the years. Gloria married James “Wayne” Melton Jr. on January 18, 1984. They shared a tradition of going to the casino and loved traveling together across the USA when they were younger. Gloria and Wayne moved to West Tawakoni in 1994 where they raised their son James Wayne Melton III. Every weekend she would go to the flea market in Quinlan and spend time with her family and sisters. She liked refurbishing old furniture in her free time and selling at Canton Trade Days. Her home was your home, and she always felt compelled to take care of everyone being the oldest of 7 girls. Regardless of the situation, she would always help anyone in need, providing a welcoming environment for family, friends, and neighbors alike, with a genuine desire for everyone’s well-being. She enjoyed long talks on the phone with her loved ones while drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
Gloria was proceeded in death by her husband James Wayne Melton Jr., Father James Sherrod, sisters Karen Sherrod and Vanessa Sherrod, and stepfather Jack Forbus.
Gloria is survived by her biological son James Wayne Melton III, wife Hannah, grandchildren James Wayne Melton IV and Caroline; sons Mark Lee Sherrod Sr. and Mark Sherrod Jr.; daughters Katrina Sherrod and Evette Rodriguez; Mother Juanita Forbus; sisters Brenda Sherrod, Tammy Graham, Tina Sherrod, Jessica Patterson and husband Ricky; numerous nieces and nephews.
