Dorthia Lee Fitzgearld Chaffin, 94 entered into the arms of Jesus surrounded by family and friends on November 23, 2019 at her home in Campbell, Texas.
She was born August 7, 1925 to Golden Taylor Fitzgearld and Walter Fitzgearld, She married Marvin (Humpy) Chaffin, September 7, 1942 in Cumby, Texas they shared 65 wonderful years together before he passed away in 2007.
Dorthia walked with the Lord and knew Him intimately. Prayer was a vital part of her life. Over the years she served as an active member of WMU, Women’s Ministry Bible Studies, working in Vacation Bible School, and mission projects. She was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Greenville, Texas.
Along with her love for gardening, she enjoyed oil painting. Her paintings were in various shows in the Greenville area.
Regardless of her age, she found joy in serving the Lord. The Lord used her love for cooking and turned it into a ministry. She prepared food for widows and shut-ins in her church and community as long as her health permitted.
She leaves lasting and wonderful memories for her family and friends.
Dorthia is survived by her three children, Elwanda Blue of Campbell, Texas. Benny Chaffin and wife Suzan of Campbell, Texas and Isaac Chaffin and wife Vivian of Commerce, Texas. She was a proud grandmother of Nanette Weghorst and husband Allan, Laura Peek and husband Billy, LeeAnn Anderson and husband Michael, Machelle Riley and husband Mike, Angie Money and husband Daren, Ryan Chaffin and wife Katherine, Jacob Chaffin, Shannon Chaffin, Sean Chaffin and wife Christy. Amanda Hall, husband Matt, and eighteen precious great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister Glenda Samples and her husband Jimmy Samples of Hughes Springs, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, step-father Roy Hall, granddaughter Rachel Chaffin, son-in-law James D. Blue, a sister Catherine Fitzgearld, brothers Wenneth Fitzgearld, Kenneth Fitzgearld and his wife Lula Faye.
Special thanks to Dr. Dee McCrary, staff, and especially Nadia and Leslie for their love and care given to her over the years. We would also like to thank Vitas Hospice for their care during her last few weeks especially her nurse Amy and her aide Joanna that made the time for her and her family so much easier.
