Betty Mae McKelvey died at home peacefully in her sleep in Greenville, Texas at the age of 95 on Saturday, April 4, 2020.
Betty is survived by children; Joan Bobo of Rockwall, Texas, Jan Teeters of Greenville, Texas, Richard Huffman of California, and Terry Huffman of Georgia. She is also survived by grandchildren Christian Bobo of Irving, Crystal Teeters and Nicole Teeters, and greatgrandchildren Zayden Teeters and Mila Finnie of Greenville. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and one brother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry McKelvey of Greenville, her parents, and nine brothers and sisters.
Betty was born on November 29, 1924 in Mechanicsburg, PA to Samuel and Bessie Helsley.
One of her greatest accomplishments was when she graduated from nursing school. She often liked to tell the story of how she transported the medications from the old hospital, in her car, to the new hospital upon its completion. She was the director of nurses at Greencrest Manor Nursing home for many years. She was a very dedicated nurse.
Betty was an avid volunteer. She volunteered at our local Salvation Army for over 30 years. She previously volunteered for the American Red Cross, Terrell State Hospital, and Hospice.
Because of the uncertain times in which we all now live, we will not be having a service or viewing. It is the family’s wish that you stay home and stay safe. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Salvation Army or our local food pantry. The family would like to thank all the staff of Kindred Hospice and the nurses and doctors at Hunt Regional Hospital in Greenville for their exceptional, loving care.
