Jimmy Edward “Eddy” Pope went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 21, 2021 in Plano, Texas at the age of 61.
Jimmy was born on September 7th, 1960 in Greenville, TX to Jimmy Earl and Nelda Sue (Denney) Pope. He grew up in Greenville.
Some of his fondest memories were being over at his Mamaw and Papaw Pope’s growing up. There was never a dull moment! He loved his big Pope family and all of his cousins. And he loved his Mamaw’s cooking! He often talked about how nobody could cook quite like her.
His Dad was his hero. He spent all the time he could with him growing up. Whether it was working cows, hauling hay or running a service station, he was his Dad’s shadow.
Jimmy enjoyed running around with his cousins in high school, cruising Wesley Street and hanging out with the Taco Bell Gang.
He met the love of his life and soulmate Rebecca Ann James (Becky) in 2005 and they were later married on September 5th, 2007 in Wolfe City, Texas.
From a young age, Jimmy was instilled with an incredible work ethic he learned from all the strong men in his family.
Jimmy went to work for the Kansas City Southern railroad in 1979. He started out as a brakeman before working his way up to conductor, and then finally to the job of engineer.
Jimmy was a fantastic engineer. He loved to run a train, often waving to the people in small towns and railroad crossings along his way. A railroad whistle and a wave from his big strong arm made many people, young and old alike, smile at the sight of the big locomotive sailing by on the tracks.
His main route was from Texas, to southern Louisiana and back to Texas.
Jimmy retired only last year after 41 long and dedicated years with the railroad.
He was a tough and callused man, but also a fair man who loved to tell stories and enjoyed a good laugh. With Jimmy, the stories would go on for hours, and with each story told, the love poured out of his very soul.
He loved his family and he loved his friends. He had a kind and giving heart. There was little he wouldn’t do for his friends and family. Jimmy was a man you could count on.
He enjoyed taking his family on vacation. Jimmy was an outdoorsman, a Man’s man. He loved to be outside working in the yard or tinkering on cars. He loved his red 55 chevy and he loved all forms of racing.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Rebecca Ann (James) Pope; sons, Cody Pope and wife, Shayla of Midland, Lucas Hogue of Greenville; daughters Katy Hackney and husband, Todd of Celeste, Caroline Kittleson, Rebekah Pope and Nicolette Hogue of Greenville; grandchildren, Jett, Jaci, Jess, Tobias and Zeke; stepfather Johnny Meyers of Celeste; along with numerous family members and friends whom he held close.
