Benny Hugh Riley, age 92, of Wolfe City, Texas, passed away on July 23, 2025. Born on July 7, 1933, in Nevada, Texas, to Arthur and Lillie (Buckley) Riley.

Benny spent most of his working years with the railroad where he took great pride in overseeing inspections and ensuring everything ran safely and smoothly.

Outside of work, Benny found joy in farming and caring for his cows, a life that grounded him and brought him peace. He had a deep appreciation for the past, reflected in the impressive collection of antique tractors. Benny also had a special place in his heart for his loyal dog, Lady, who was his constant companion.

He is survived by his son, Benny Riley and wife Jane; his daughters, Linda Sass and Brenda Mercer; grandchildren, Brian Riley, Jonathan Mercer, and Stephen Sass; great-grandchildren, Cody Riley, Clayton Riley, Cory Riley, Kayln Riley, Alice Mercer, and Nicholas Mercer; and his great-great-grandchild, David Gerald Riley II. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends who will remember him fondly.

Benny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Jean Riley; his son, Garry Hugh Riley; sons-in-law, Terry Sass and Charles Mercer; grandchildren, Amanda Riley and David Gerald Riley; and his brother, Billy Riley.

Those who knew Benny will remember his warm smile, his quiet laugh, and the way he could make you feel at home just by being near. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and simple living—a life well lived and well loved.
