Bill F. Morgan was born on October 17, 1936 to William and Gruthie Mae. He passed on December 30, 2019, peacefully and surrounded by family. He held a variety of roles in his 83 years.
Professional: Bill was with Colonial Bank for many years, rising to President and CEO. In later years, he would own and/or manage multiple retail stores in the Greenville area.
Civic: A lifelong Greenville resident, Bill served as the Mayor from 1985 to 1991.
Husband: Bill leaves his second wife, Melissa Bentley, to rejoin his first, Diane Patterson, who passed in 1977.
Father: Bill is survived by Diana White and Michael Morgan, his children with Diane, as well as Matthew Morgan, his child with Melissa. They have always chosen to ignore the idea of half-siblings.
Family and “Family”: Bill’s brother James preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother Wayne. He is survived by various in-laws, cousins, and a whole mess of grandkids and great grandkids. Whether related by blood, law, or simply sentiment, they are his family. Also among his survivors are many that he welcomed as extended family, be they golf buddies, travel partners, even friends of his kids. Those he counted as family are far too numerous to name here, but he loved them all.
An informal celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 10th at The Oaks Country Club (formerly Oak Creek), 271 W. Jack Finney Boulevard in Greenville. Festivities will begin at 6:00 PM, though no one is required to be on time. In lieu of flowers, please bring stories.
