Billy Dorman Gilmer, 96, of Greenville passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 25, 2021 with Rev. Dr. Bob Henley officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born October 24, 1924 in Blue Ridge, Texas, Bill was the son of Quince Morgan Gilmer and Vera (Fox) Gilmer. He married Rosabel Henley at Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville on February 28, 1953. He served in the United States Army, 77th Infantry and received a Purple Heart after being wounded in Okinawa. Bill and his dad owned and operated Gilmer and Son Bottling Co. After the bottling company, Bill owned and operated the Cabell’s Milk distributorship, then the Canada Dry distributorship, and lastly in 1964, he became the part-owner of the Greenville Sporting Goods for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Rosabel Gilmer of Greenville; son, Greg Gilmer and wife, Leann of Greenville; grandchildren, Gregory Gilmer and wife, Holly of Pearland and Kelsey Calbow and husband, Kasey of Rowlett; great-grandchildren Hadley Gilmer and Sadie Gilmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Freda Daughterty.
The family requests memorials be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or Meals on Wheels.
Pallbearers will be Greg Gilmer, Kasey Calbow, Curt Herge, David Williams, Greg Williams and David King.
