Billy James Daniel, 85, of Wolfe City, passed away on July 23, 2021 at Oak Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Commerce with his family by his side. Billy was born in Wolfe City, Texas on July 13, 1936, the son of Samuel Daniel and Eliza Phillips Daniel. He began his career in the grocery business as a stocker there at age 12, and retired as a co-owner/manager 41 years later in 1989. He was a graduate of Wolfe City High School, class of 1954. Bill joined the National Guard 49th Armored Division in October of 1958 and served until 1965. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and could be found doing so whenever he could make time for it. Billy married Margaret (Maggie) Hooe on September 1, 1963 in Wardville, Atoka County, Oklahoma, making their home together in Wolfe City for nearly 58 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Billy is survived by his wife, Maggie, a nephew, Bradley Lumpkin (Kathleen) and a great nephew, Hagen Lumpkin (Michaela) of Wolfe City.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Faye Daniel Lumpkin and brother-in-law, Ray Lumpkin, numerous other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service, conducted by Mark Eldridge, will be held to honor the life of Mr. Daniel at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Chapel in Wolfe City at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 9, Wolfe City, Texas, 75496.
