Clifford Taft Nelson, lovingly known as “Cliff,” passed away on January 4, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on October 19, 1946, to George and Grace Nelson in Hartford, CT. Cliff dedicated his life to service and family. A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, he honorably served for 26 years before retiring. Following his military career, he worked in aviation at L-3 and Raytheon, further contributing to his passion for flight and technology.
Cliff was a devoted husband to his wife, Valerie, with whom he shared a beautiful 56-year marriage. As a father, he was extremely loving, dedicated, and had a unique sense of humor that kept his children guessing – often leaving them unsure whether they were in trouble or not. His love was undeniable, and he made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Cliff is survived by his wife, Valerie Coddington-Nelson; children, Laura Mitchell and Brent Sparks of Caddo Mills, TX, Heidi Nelson and P. Ryan Love of Athens, TX, Todd and Amy Nelson of Stoneburg, TX; brother, Paul and Mary Ann Nelson; sister, Joann Lincoln; grandchildren, Shelby, Hannah, Hayden, Austin, Hallie; great-grandchildren, Koah, Willow, and Layton, as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace Nelson, and his brothers, George and Brad Nelson.
A memorial service to honor Cliff’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Lynch Funeral Home in Caddo Mills, TX.
