Our beloved David Thomas Shirey III, 41, slept in the Lord on April 21, 2025, in Orange City, Florida. Servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, and supportive brother, the love and work of Jesus Christ in the life of David was a testimony of God’s faithfulness to His children that He would always be with them.

Born on May 10, 1983, in Greenville, Texas, David lived the life that God gave him with great passion, even in the midst of great suffering. He cherished his family and was wholeheartedly dedicated to them, always ready to serve at his church, among his friends, and throughout his community. David was married to his beloved wife, Olivia, for fourteen years. With love, he discipled his three daughters—Vanessa Ruth, Alina Esther, and Sofia Genesis—who will forever remember their Papi teaching them about the Bible and the hope of life eternal that we have through the faith in Jesus Christ alone, for the forgiveness of our sins.

Beloved firstborn son to David Thomas Shirey Jr. and Kathy Sue Shirey, and treasured sibling to his brothers and sisters: Benjamin Shirey and wife Neely, Joshua Shirey and wife Beth, Ethan Shirey and wife Lizzie, Micah Shirey and wife Lindsey, Elizabeth Follett and husband Luke, Nathan Shirey and wife Jessica, and Sarah Maines and husband Josh. David was also loved and cherished by his grandparents: David and Joanna Shirey and Charles and Joan Lynch, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

David earned a degree in Biology and spent a decade working in banking before pursuing his passion for aviation as a flight instructor at ATP in Daytona Beach. A true outdoorsman, he was a camping expert who thrived in the beauty of God’s creation. His love for music was evident in his skill as a mandolin player and his deep appreciation for Handel’s Messiah. He was also a remarkably brilliant problem solver, known for his sharp mind and ability to find solutions where others saw obstacles.

We will truly miss David—his beautiful smile, his unique sense of humor, and his enthusiasm for life, no matter how difficult the path. Through Christ, who strengthened him, he pressed on, always keeping his eyes on things above. His life was a reminder to live for Christ, to persevere in every circumstance, and to rejoice in the certainty that our true home is not in this world but with our King, Jesus. We eagerly await the resurrection of the dead on the last day, when Christ returns in glory.

The funeral service will be this Wednesday the 23rd of April, at 3:00 p.m. at the church the Shirey family is a member of, Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church in Port Orange. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday the 26th of April at 1:30 p.m. at Ridgecrest Church, in Greenville, Texas.
