Elaine Maxine Spray (Kaule), a resident from Greenville, TX passed away peacefully on January 10th at the age of 97. Elaine is survived by her children, Michael Spray and his wife Sherry and her daughter Kathy Petty and her husband Kendal along with her grandchildren Ross Spray, Diana Praete and husband Cameron, Stephanie DeMartini and husband Domenick, Rachel Tatum and husband Chris, Joshua Petty and Rayna Petty. She is preceded in death by her dear husband Kenneth (Ken) Spray of 67 years and her son Donald Spray.
Elaine was born on October 6, 1927 in Muskegon Michigan to Max and Augusta Kaule. She attended Muskegon High School graduating in 1945 as valedictorian. She married Ken Spray in 1947 and attended Michigan State University with him for one year making the Dean’s list both semesters. In addition to being an amazing home maker, she worked for Clark Equipment almost 15 years in accounting retiring in 1991.
Elaine was a beloved mother, grandmother, Auntie and friend. She and Ken spent over 40 of their 67 years of marriage in Niles Michigan raising kids and being part of the Presbyterian Church and larger community. Elaine served on PTO, band boosters and was a Girl Scout leader for several years. She was an amazing cook and baker making custom birthday cakes, cookies, candy and stollen that were eagerly looked forward to at family events. In addition, her green thumb was legendary growing large vegetable gardens for freezing and canning and her rose gardens. She loved big band music and dancing, attending several Glen Miller festivals over the years with Ken.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date and she will join her beloved Ken at his DFW National Cemetery columbarium. Elaine and Ken were both passionate about education and any memorials can be directed to United Presbyterian Church 5905 Stonewall St. Greenville TX 75402 to support higher education scholarships.
