Elmona McWhirter, 86, of Wolfe City, Texas passed peacefully from this life at her residence on November 25, 2020. She was born in the Black Cat Thicket Community of Hunt County on November 14, 1934; the daughter of Walter Lee Malone and Goldie Miller Malone. Elmona was a graduate of Wolfe City High School where she had the distinction of being the valedictorian of her class. She married James C. McWhirter on November 30, 1955 in Durant, Oklahoma. Mrs. McWhirter served as office manager of Hennington Industries for 52 years before retiring. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wolfe City and also served as a volunteer with the Wolfe City Food Pantry.
Mrs. McWhirter is survived by her two daughters: Paula Shive of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Kristi McWhirter of Wolfe City. Other survivors include her beloved dog Bella, who never left her side, grandchildren: Angela Duckworth (Robin), Michael Shive (Kirstie), Jason Shive (Amber), Emily Heister (Brandon), 13 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, 7 nieces, and 9 nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, James, 3 sisters: Christine McKay, Delma Collins, and Wanda Jacobs; and 2 brothers: Marvin (Tom) Malone and Melvin Malone.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Anew Hospice workers, Courtney Drew and Vivian King and to Hearts and Hands Homecare and the women at the First United Methodist Church in Wolfe City.
Visitation for Mrs. McWhirter will be held in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Chapel on Sunday November 29, 2020 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be Monday November 30, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Chapel with Bro. Terry Bryan officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Shive, Jason Shive, Robin Duckworth, Brandon Heister, Xavier Wade, and Devon Shive. Honorary pallbearers are,Gene Dawson, Stevie Sanders, Kelly Sanders and Chad Mashburn.
