Eugene Bates, 85, of Quinlan passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 in the peace of his home. Eugene was born on November 3, 1933 in Quinlan, the son of Murl and Viola (Monk) Bates. He married Lou Edith Miller on July 22, 1971 in Durant, OK. Eugene was the longest active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Quinlan.
Eugene is preceded in his death by his wife, Edith Bates; his parents, Murl and Viola Bates; son, Jonathan V. Bates; and brother, Zeke Bates.
He is survived by two sisters, Betty Meyer and Willie Bates; sister-in-law, Margie Bates; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A public visitation will be held at Quinlan Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 21, 2019 in the chapel. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10:00 am at the First Assembly of God Church in Quinlan with Bro. David Hammond and Pastor Ben Terry officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Quinlan IOOF Cemetery with Rodger Bates, Mike Bates, Coltyn Duke, Ashtyn Long, Jerry Arnold and James Langford serving as pallbearers.
