George Carroll Sampson “Bud,” passed away on October 8, 2021, at Colonial Lodge TenderCare in Greenville, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Jordan officiating, and music by Steve Payne. Burial will follow at Merit Cemetery.
Carroll was born in McKinney, Texas on April 23, 1939, to Iris Clayton Sampson and Ada Iola Hockett Sampson.
Carroll was wed to Brenda Joyce Hayes on September 23, 1961, in her parents’ home in Greenville, Texas. One month after they were married, he was drafted into the Army and served two years. Deemed “too smart for combat” by the United States Government, he worked in payroll at Fort Sill in Oklahoma coming home every other weekend to see his new bride. Carroll and Brenda recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Carroll, known as “Sam,” retired from Raytheon after 40 years.
Carroll was a long-time member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church. He and his wife, Brenda, were 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School teachers for over 55 years.
Carroll is survived by his wife, Brenda Sampson of Greenville; daughter Kelli Marie Love and husband Jeff of Greenville; grandchildren, Hayley Caroline Love and Reagan Matthew Love, sister Margaret Wood of Garland and sister Jean England and husband Rick of Garland; and sister-in-law Janice Towers and husband Eddie of Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anita Rogers; brothers James A. “Sonny” Sampson and Von Ray Sampson.
