Born on July 5, 1930, in Cocke County, Tennessee, Jay lived a life infused with love for his family and a connection to his community. His unwavering love for his family was evident in all that he did. He and his beloved wife, Rose, shared a beautiful marriage that spanned an incredible 72 years, a testament to their deep bond and commitment to one another.
Together, Jay and Rose raised five remarkable children: John Arthur (Susan ), Donna Lorraine DeHart (Tom), Steven Allen (Mary Ann), George Kevin (Connie), and James Matthew (Kelly) McMahan. Jay often reminisced about the joy they brought to his life, and he cherished the countless family gatherings filled with laughter and love. His legacy not only lives on in the memories created, but also in the hearts of his thirteen grandchildren; Lillie (Brad), Daniel (Vivian), Johnna (Brad), Traci (Justin), Crystal (Jeff), Leslie (Luis), Michael (Kaylyn), Christopher (Emily), Katie
(Josh), Shawna, Marissa, Macey (Collin), Curtis, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored with all his heart. Jay was a pillar of strength in his community and desired to help anyone who came into his life. After serving in the Air Force as a Staff Sargent for 4 years, he went on to have an illustrious 60+ year career in the sheet metal business. He retired to Texas from California to pursue his dream of working the land and raising Black Angus cattle. He always had a large garden which he shared with his neighbors. His contributions to his community extended beyond the borders, as he sought to impact the lives of those around him.
He was predeceased by his parents, George Bernie and Ava Love McMahan, and 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to benefit the Paradise Church Building Fund, a cause undoubtedly close to Jay’s heart, ensuring his spirit of giving continues to inspire others. He will be remembered not only for the love he shared but also for the humor, spirit, and strength that defined him. James McMahan’s legacy is one of love, faith, and family, and he will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn the loss of a wonderful man, we also celebrate a life well-lived. James will be missed but never forgotten.
There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Paradise Baptist Church, 3688 CR 2170, Caddo Mills, TX 75135.
