James W. Adams, 97, a long time Greenville, Texas resident, passed away on February 4, 2025.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
James was born in Ruston, Louisiana, in 1928 to William R. Adams, Sr. and Mildred Saunders Adams. He grew up in Ruston and attended Louisiana Tech University after enlisting and serving two years in the US Navy (WWII).
He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa and Tau Kappa Epsilon while at Louisiana Tech. He earned his MSEE form SMU.
He met his life companion, Jeanne Henslee, in college and they were married in 1952 in Shreveport, Louisiana and shared 73 years together. They made their home and raised their family in Texas while following his career to Arlington, Houston, Dallas and Greenville.
James had a career in the defense industry with E-Systems/Raytheon developing sophisticated state of the art systems for the nation’s security and searching out new business for them in Greenville. He retired as a corporate vice president in charge of planning in the Dallas offices.
After retirement he served his community on the Greenville Electric Utility Board, was an active member of Rotary and Kavanaugh Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; daughters, Mary Alice Hendrix and husband, Charley, Marjorie Ann Adams; son, James W. Adams, Jr.; grandchild, Racheal Ray and husband, Sam; and three great-grandsons.
