Joe Allen Elmore, 85, passed away peacefully at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville on Tuesday, January 12. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 on Thursday, January 21 at Wieland Cemetery on FM 2101, Greenville with officiating by Reverends Roger Ratliff and Larry Combs.

 He was born on November 26, 1935 to Sherfey Arthur and Gladys Victoria McBroom Elmore in Quinlan. In 1958, he married Ruth Yulonda McClatchy on Valentine’s Day and had recently celebrated his 85th birthday on Thanksgiving Day! They attended Vansickle Baptist Church.As a young man he was employed at the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in Greenville where he would ride the train from Greenville to Denison to sell Dr. Pepper at the Greenville football games on Friday nights.  In 1958, he changed employment to Carsey Motor Co. where he began selling auto parts. In 1959, he continued selling auto parts at the newly opened Grady Chevrolet becoming the parts manager in 1982 until his retirement in 1995. He was also the owner of Elmore Sand and Gravel.

 Joe enjoyed hunting in Colorado and going to his Texas deer lease with his son, grandsons, and deer hunting buddies; but sitting around the campfire with all of them was his utmost enjoyment. He also loved Whataburger in his retirement years and visiting with his friends there, watching “Gunsmoke” while eating orange slices, taking care of his dog Snoopy, and watching over his 1943 vintage Jeep!Joe is survived by his wife, Yulonda; his sister, Rebecca June Brown; his son, Gregg Allen Elmore and wife Deanie; his grandchildren, Rance Allen Elmore and wife Destiny and Reed Walker Elmore. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Wanda Ann Hunt and husband Charles; his nieces, Lori Murphy and husband Monty and Leah Fortenberry and husband Jimmy; his nephew, Chip Haynes; as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

 Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Sherfey and Gladys; his brother, G. C. Elmore.Pallbearers will be Rance Elmore, Reed Elmore, Jim Skinner, Jerry Anderson, Ken Rolen, Monty Murphy, Chip Haynes, and Jimmy Fortenberry. His “hunting buddies” Melvin Wade, Bobby Manley, Norman Kirkman, Dewight Grider, Jerry Manley, Joe Landrith, Randy Stone, Steve Walden, and Marty Wade will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
