Laura Jean Fraser Black, known to her family and friends as Jean, went to be with her heavenly father on August 21, 2023.

Jean was born January 7, 1934 in Holdenville, OK to parents, Carl and Inez Fraser. She graduated from Wilson High School in Henryetta, OK. Jean loved Jesus, her family, baseball, and Oklahoma University sports.

She was proud to be a Christian and shared her love of Christ daily. She married L. H. “Larry” Black on September 6, 1952 and they had 4 children; Robin, Lynn, Glynn, and Christie. Jean began working at the City of Greenville in October 1975 in the Utilities Administration. She worked for various departments during her time at the City and retired in April 1997 as the Personnel Officer. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.

Jean is survived by her husband Larry; children Lynn Black and wife, Linda; Glynn Black and wife, Becky; and Christie Black Sponsel and husband, Tom; grandchildren Danny Black, Randy Black, Heath Black, Courtney Black, Joseph Sponsel, Leigha Sponsel and Hannah Murray; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Jean is preceded in death by son, Robin Mitchell Black; parents Carl and Inez Fraser; sisters Luna Taylor, Lena Powell, and Rosanna Tomlinson.

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the staff at Family First Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Jean. To honor her wishes, there will be no formal services. Her children will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
