Lyndal Ray Herrin, age 78, was born April 12, 1945 in Chickasha, OK where his parents
were stationed while in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Lyndal passed peacefully at his home
in Caddo Mills, Texas April 30, 2023 with his loving wife by his side.
He is preceded by his parents, Mattie Florence (Calvert) Herrin, William Cullen Herrin
and by his sons Bryan Dean Herrin and Richard Alan Herrin.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Herrin of Caddo Mills, Texas, brother Donnie Herrin
and wife Romy of Plano, Texas, son Bobby Caudle and wife Debra of Athens, Texas,
niece Dana (Herrin) Sweatman and husband Tyler of Fort Worth, Texas. Lyndal’s
grandchildren are Taylor Alexandria Herrin, Brandon Avery Herrin and Ryan Alan
Herrin.
Lyndal graduated from Plano High School in Plano, Texas. He then played a year of
football at Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Lyndal then enlisted in the
U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He was a statistical analyst for the EFB-111 bomber
program at Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois and Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV.
Lyndal’s career included jobs as a statistical analyst for major corporations and as a
business owner for furniture and antique restoration and refurbishment.
Lyndal enjoyed gardening, visiting with his family and being with his pets. After Lyndal’s
stroke in 2011, he became renowned for his ability to rebound after numerous medical
lapses. As such, he became known to his family as the “Comeback Kid.” He absolutely
amazed his doctors and family as to how he rebounded after a medical event and… he
never gave up. He was always striving to achieve the next goal to get better. He and
Liz attended a gym program and the staff were in awe at his fortitude to get better and
eventually gave Lyndal the name of “Bulldog” due to his steadfast persistence and
fortitude to achieve the next physical goal.
Lyndal’s family has been a hallmark support group over the years, especially his loving
wife Liz. She has been the rock in Lyndal’s life. Married a mere three months, Lyndal
endured a life-threatening stroke event. After this event Liz never wavered and has
remained steadfast, lockstep at Lyndal’s side through every, painstaking, challenging
way through his recovery.
Liz and Lyndal attend the Pecan Grove Church, A Church Of Christ in Greenville, Texas.
Their faith is resolute as demonstrated by Liz reading scripture and devotions to Lyndal
each morning from “Jesus Calling.” You have earned it Lyndal. Now it’s your time to
rest in peace dear son, husband, brother, Dad, Granddad and uncle. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested you make a donation to your favorite charity/organization in Lyndal’s name.
