Nancy Jane Newman, 74, formally of Commerce, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2020, surrounded by her family.  A celebration of life memorial service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

She was born on October 11, 1945 in Tallulah, Louisiana, the daughter of Leonard Paul Neumann and Bessie Idadelle Tryon Neumann. 

Nancy attended Tallulah High School, graduating in 1963.  Following high school, she attended Louisiana State University, graduating in 1967 with her BS in Education.  She enjoyed a career in teaching with the Madison Parish schools. After 15 years in education, she retired in 2005.  In her leisure time, Nancy enjoyed several activities.  She was quite an accomplished seamstress, making clothing for her girls.  Among some of the most memorable were prom dresses that she made them.  She was an avid reader.  Among her favorite authors were James Michener and James Patterson. She was always up for a good murder mystery!  Her first love was working in her garden.  She truly enjoyed tending her flowers.  In 2007, Nancy married Burrell Newman in Monroe, Louisiana. He preceded her in death in 2010.

Nancy is survived by her children, Kathryn Adelle Gaither  and her husband, Doyle, Elizabeth Claire McKenzie and her husband, John, Jacob Dietrich Brinson and his wife, Noemy and Leonard Edwin Brinson and his wife, Victoria; grandchildren, Meagan and her husband, Charles, Cody (Hayley), Whitney (Roland), Hunter (Karen), Hayleigh, Abbie River, Elliott, Lennox, Miles, Bret, Dulce, Mauricio, Nisay and husband, Omar, Darlene (Damian) and Dariann; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Enso; siblings, Bobby and his wife, Brenda, Danny and his wife, Burky, Tommy and his wife, Nan, Leonard Pop, Bettyann and her husband, Charles and numerous nieces and nephews.
