Peggy LaVee Harmon, 86, of Greenville, passed away on October 22, 2020 at Hunt Regional Hospital.
Peggy was born in Lone Star, Texas, a small community near Loraine, Texas, on December 13, 1933 to Plez and Elba Mae Beaty. She grew up in Loraine and graduated from Loraine High School in 1951. She then attended McMurray College in Abilene, Texas for two years. She and Ray Harmon were married on October 31, 1953 in Loraine, Texas and were happily married for 66 years. She and Ray had three children, Pam, David, and Penny. She and her family moved to Greenville in 1966. Her dream of being a teacher was fulfilled when she went back to school and graduated from East Texas State University with a Bachelor of Education and then a Master of Education in 1968. She continued her education and earned a special certification in Early Childhood Education in order to teach kindergarten. She taught second grade, third grade, and kindergarten classes from 1968 until she retired in 1989. She spent her entire teaching career with Greenville ISD. Peggy had a special love for the many children that she touched while teaching. She continued to maintain friendly relations with many of her past students for the rest of her life.
Peggy loved her family. She looked forward to visiting with each loved one and often all of them together at family gatherings. Christmas and Thanksgiving were her favorite times for family gatherings. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren knew that they were always welcome at any time, for any reason.
She was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed household projects such as painting, wall papering, and redecorating her home. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her weekly Bible studies. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Pam Siebenhausen and husband Chris and Penny Crabtree and husband Scott; son David Harmon and wife Rita, all of Greenville. Brother Maylon Beaty and wife Peggy of Abilene, TX. Grandchildren, Chris Siebenhausen IV and wife Lesley of Dallas, James Siebenhausen and wife Melissa, Sydney Andrews and husband Brandon, Samantha Harmon, Sawyer Harmon and wife Morgan, Cal Crabtree, and Maddy Crabtree, all of Greenville. She was also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents, Plez and Elba Mae Beaty, and sister Patsy Walker.
Her grandsons Chris Siebenhausen IV, James Siebenhausen, Cal Crabtree, Sawyer Harmon, and Brandon Andrews will serve as pallbearers.
A private family graveside service was held on Sunday October 25th with Reverend Royce Litchfield officiating. Burial was at MemoryLand Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
