Ramona Stansel, 84, former Greenville resident went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on March 5, 2020. On December 29th , 1966 she married Harold Stansel, (WWII, Korea and Vietnam Veteran) in Waco, TX. They relocated from James Connally Air Force Base in Waco, TX to Greenville, TX in 1969. Ramona graduated from Grayson County Junior College and furthered her education at East Texas State University.
Ramona enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, writing, cooking, listening to music and taking long walks on sunny days. While attending college at ETSU Ramona’s Spanish teaching professor advised that he was intimidated by her Spanish speaking and writing abilities and encouraged her to pursuit a degree plan in the Spanish field. She enjoyed providing a variety of home cooked meals to her kids and
neighborhood friends after their full day of summer outdoor activities. She loved traveling to Waco to spend time with her siblings reminiscing about the “good old days”.
Ramona relocated to Fort Worth to enter into an assisted living facility and there she obtained many new friendships with her loving care providers. Her courage and strength was on display as she battled health issues in the later part of her life. So many loving hands and prayers were provided to Ramona through these challenging times. Family members regularly drove long distances to share special moments with her
laughing and spending time together.
She is survived by her daughter Tess Arden and husband Bob Arden from Shreveport, Louisiana ;son Bobby Castillo and wife Leslie Castillo from Greenville; son Mike Castillo and wife Debbie Castillo from Pueblo, Colorado; step daughters Terry Bevino and husband Jerry Bevino from North Carolina; stepdaughter Jackie Becktold from Care Free, Arizona; sisters Trini Mendoza from Dallas; Helen Sanchez from Waco; Josephine O’Malley from Waco; Inez Arnold and husband Johnny Arnold from Georgia. She has many nephews and nieces and her grandchildren include Brayden Castillo, Talen Castillo, Jylien Castillo from Greenville; Hunter Lawrence from Shreveport, Louisiana; Steven Castillo and Luke Castillo from Pueblo Colorado.
She was proceeded in death by her mother Ricarda Barrientez, father Francisco Barrientez, stepson Glen Stansel, brothers Jimmy Barrientez; Johnny Barrientez, Albert Barrientez, Tony Barrientez, Frank Barrientez, Jr; Jimmy Barrientez; sister Susie Salinas, brother-n-laws Charles O’Malley, Paul Salinas; Joe Mendoza; sister-n-law Mercy Barrientez; and nephew Jesse Sanchez.
On Sunday, March 15, there will be a family memorial service for Ramona in Waco, TX. On Monday, March 16, there will be a service attended by friends and family as Ramona will be laid to rest next to her husband at the DFW National Memorial Cemetery – Dallas, 9:30 AM.
