Richard Allen Johnson (Rick), 75, a lifetime resident of the Greenville area, passed away Friday July 17, 2020 at Greenville Gardens in Greenville, Texas.
Richard was born to De Lewis Johnson and Pansy Witt Johnson in Greenville, Texas, January 14, 1945. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Doug Johnson. He is survived by his sister, Olivia (Libby) Johnson Peter of Roxton, Texas and sister-in-law, Susan Johnson of Rockwall, Texas. He also leaves behind nephews, De Lewis Johnson of Rockwall, Texas and Hank Bryant of Reno, Texas, and nieces, Deonna Stevens of Greenville, Texas, Kathy Archuleta of Woodbridge, Virginia, Sandra Ramsey of Paris, Texas and Lisa Duty of Tawakoni, Texas
Richard grew up in Greenville and started playing in a band during his teens as a drummer. He continued to play in several different bands throughout his young adulthood and maintained a great love for all kinds of music his entire life. He was an avid reader, and his hobbies included playing golf and riding motorcycles. He also obtained his pilot’s license and enjoyed pleasure flying for many years. Richard always had a great interest in aviation and this led him to make his career with L3 in Greenville, Texas. He retired in 2009 as a Logistics Manager after 30 years with the company. After retiring, Richard’s greatest pleasure came from working in his yard and spending time with his beloved dog “buster” who has been adopted by a good friend and neighbor.
Richard will be sorely missed and well remembered, by his family and many friends. He was a gentleman with a great sense of humor. He loved his family and cherished his friends. He had an adventurous spirit and “Rock and Roll Soul”. He truly marched to the beat of his own drum. Rest in peace sweet man!
A graveside service will be held for family and friends Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, officiating by Dr. James Ralson. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be De Lewis Johnson, nephew; Hank Bryant, nephew; Brook Duty, nephew-in-law; and Tommy Rowe, a long time friend. Also, life ling friend, Don Medford will serve as honorary pallbearer.
