Richard Thomas McCann passed away peacefully at his home in Caddo Mills, Texas on February 8, 2022 at the age of 41 after a seven year battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Richard was born on May 27, 1980 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Ralph and Jeri McCann. He grew up in Iowa Park, Texas. Among many hobbies, Richard loved playing sports. He discovered his love for powerlifting in high school and was a Texas State Champion his senior year. He graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1998. He went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas Tech University and a Masters degree in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. After working for several years in the mental health field, he resided as the director of outpatient services at Glen Oaks Hospital.
While in graduate school, he took a chance on a blind date and met his wife, Stephanie. They married in Wichita Falls on June 14, 2008 and lived in Rowlett, Texas for several years before moving to Caddo Mills. They have two daughters together, Madeline, 12, and Avery, 10; both of whom adore their dad to pieces. They loved his quirky sense of humor and all the “concerts” they would have in the car on the way to school in the mornings.
Anyone who knew Richard knew of his two main passions in life: anything related to Texas Tech and his love for the outdoors. You could always find Richard outside doing yard work, tending to the goats and chickens, working on chores at the ranch, or his favorite, hunting and fishing. He loved going to the Fort Worth Stock Show every year, as well as Cowboy and Ranger games. He was a great trip planner – thinking of any detail along the way to make the trip go smoother. Of course, he always had to make a stop at QT for a chicken taquito and their fountain drinks, because those were “always the best.” Richard could share the most random knowledge and quote any movie, especially Nacho Libre or Dumb and Dumber. Even after his cancer diagnosis, for a while, you might never know he was ill, because he was always on the go, whether he felt good or not. He loved planning surprises and buying gifts for people. Richard had a way of making each person feel special in their own way. But most importantly, he was a man of God and loved the Lord with all his heart.
