Robert Edward Self, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025. He was born on November 8, 1946, in Shreveport, LA, to Matthew Anderson Self and Norma Jean (Henderson) Self.

Robert dedicated his life to preaching God’s word to others and he was a painter by trade. An ordained minister, he was a cherished member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was also an avid singer that loved to sing worship songs to his Lord. His love for the Lord was evident in everything he did, and he made it a point to share his faith and ensure others knew the love of Jesus.

Robert’s sense of humor and playful nature made him a trickster, bringing joy to everyone around him. He had a deep love for travel, camping, the great outdoors and tinkering about. His greatest passion, however, was his family, and his love for his wife and children knew no bounds.

He married his sweetheart Brenda Carty on July 27, 1968, in Alaska, and together they shared 57 years of marriage. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; children Teresa Perez (Jim), Diana Self, and Ron Self (Evie); grandchildren Jose Monsour, Angelica Monsour, Christopher “Bo” Monsour, Chris Gregory, Heather Friesel, Ryan Gregory, Devin Self, Alysha Dennis, Evan Dennis, and Liam Self; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and beloved friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James Ray Self and David Self.

Robert’s life verse was Matthew 25:23 (KJV): “His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
