Robert Wayne Parsons departed this life to his heavenly home March 8, 2025.
Robert was born Aug. 9, 1936, to Jimmie Faye Summer and Hiram Joe Parsons in Hunt County, Texas. He married Martha Ann Henin on Feb. 12, 1958 in Wolfe City, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy for five years in California and the Far East.
Robert was a member of the Baptist faith and served as deacon for 30 years. He was a member of the Highland Terrace Baptist Church. He and his wife, Martha, served as Youth Mission trip sponsors for several years, were leaders for youth church training and were appointed by the Home Mission Board as Mission Service Corp volunteers in Casper, Wyoming during the years of 1988-1989. He served on all church committees, in pastoral ministries, Sunday school directorship, nursing home and hospital ministry. He and Martha had an on-going retirement and nursing home ministry in Greenville, Texas.
Robert retired from the U.S. Postal Service and Paris Jr. College in Greenville.
Left to cherish his memory are two adopted daughters, Gaye Smith of Greenville and Frankie Bickel of Port Clinton, Ohio. Also, their husbands and children; Scott Smith and Toby Bickel, Neil, Nate and Nick Smith and Seth and Josh Bickel, sister-in-law, Nancy Parsons of Wolfe City, plus several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Billie James Parsons and Joe Morris Parsons and by sister, Lola Faye Tucker.
A funeral service will be held at the chapel of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, with Dr. James Ralson and Dr. Dewey Davidson officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, Texas. A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday until service time.
Pallbearers will be Scott Smith, Neil Smith, Nate Smith, Nick Smith, Toby Bickel and Duane Gaulden. Honorary pallbearers will include Jerry Bench and Amos Lowry.
