Sandra “Shorty Gale” Hooten, 79, of Caddo Mills, TX, passed away peacefully at home on January 22, 2025. Born February 9, 1945, in Greenville, TX, she lived a life filled with love, generosity, and a zest for life.
Sandra was a member of the Church of Christ in Caddo Mills, TX. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including the beauty of gardening, the thrill of the casino, and the deliciousness of a good meal, especially fast food and pie. Known for her kind and giving spirit, Sandra had a nurturing nature and would always go out of her way to help others, often giving even when she had little to give herself.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Gray; her daughters, Leette Duran and husband Eddie, and Dana Jones and husband Tommie; her grandchildren, Ren Jones and wife Jennifer, Xavier Verser, Isaah Verser, Marisa Duran, Madison Osorio and husband Marc, and Andrew Duran; and her sister, Dianna Holland.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, C.W. “Woodrow” Phillips and Weta Mae Johnson Phillips; her brothers, Charles Phillips and Larry Phillips; her sister, Carolyn Beck; and her beloved best friend, Joni Curry.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel in Caddo Mills, TX. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery in Caddo Mills.
