Scott David Odgers, 75, of Lone Oak, passed away on September 1, 2023, at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville with his family by his side. A military graveside service will be held at 10:15 A.M., Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born to Melvin L. Odgers and Helen Kimble Odgers on July 9, 1948, in Clay Center, Kansas. He grew up in McFarland, Kansas and attended Alma, Kansas High School.
After high school he worked briefly on the railroad and then joined the U.S. Navy. Scott was very proud of his service to his country and served in the Navy for four years during the Vietnam War as a radio operator stationed in Washington DC and Kodiak, Alaska. He became a licensed pilot and loved flying. After his Navy service, Scott worked for ITT and the Federal Government. His later career was international work with the Parsons Corporation and Ericsson. His career took him all over the United States and the world. Some of the projects Scott worked on are the Apollo-Soyuz mission with NASA, ”The Island Project” with Parsons in Saudi Arabia, the first optical fiber network in Romania as a project manager for Ericsson, and again with Parsons during ”Operation Iraqi Freedom”.
He had a kind and generous spirit and donated funds to UNICEF, Salvation Army and food banks regularly.
His family, especially his daughter, Chiara, meant the world to him. He always made time to talk to his mother and his sister, Claudia every day. He loved listening to and watching world news, traveling, gardening, cooking, beer and his Vespa. He enjoyed life and worked hard to achieve his dream of living on a farm. He had a fighting spirit and did not give up on life even after suffering a massive heart attack and becoming a bilateral amputee in 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Nicoleta Odgers, daughter, Chiara Odgers, and sister, Claudia Odgers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He loved us all and he will be missed terribly.
