Gene was born May 20, 1933, in Lamar County, Texas, to Elzie Lewis and Bettie Roddy Williams. He married Erma Jean Gasway on June 14, 1952, in Clarksville, Texas. Gene loved the Lord and attended Highland Terrace faithfully for many years until his death. Gene was a wonderful father and faithful husband. He adored his wife and the life they shared for 66 years. He worked in Building Maintenance for the City of Greenville until his retirement. Gene worked hard to provide for his family and spent his retirement helping and spending time with his family. If he wasn’t with his wife, he was working on the latest house project with his son or daughter. He was at every holiday, birthday party, music program, awards assembly, and graduation beaming with pride. If there was a baby around, he was holding them. In every conversation, he was more concerned with others and their well-being than himself. Anyone who interacted with him experienced his loving and outgoing personality. Gene and his wife also enjoyed traveling in their RV to attend Blue Grass Festivals with his brothers and sisters. Most summers included a large RV vacation with all the children and grandchildren. He was the ‘Granddaddy’ who was always available for anything and everything the grandchildren needed.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Nancy Williams and husband, Richard; son, Dwayne Williams and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Joshua Decker, Naomi Estrada and husband, Chris, Jennifer Rollins and husband, James, Laura Beene and husband, Adam, Brittany Williams; great-grandchildren, Leah Gilbert, Jack Gilbert, Hunter Williams, Katelynn Rollins, Madelynn Rollins, Everleigh Rollins, Hudson Beene, Presley Beene, Mason Beene, and Cooper Beene.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers and sisters, Charles Williams, Louise Clement, Mildred Humphrey, Evelyn Gregor, Cora Crow, E. L. Williams, and Faye Mackin.
