W.C. Ferrell Sr., 90, of Greenville passed away early Thursday morning in Greenville.
W.C. was born July 13, 1929 in DeWitt, VA. and graduated from McKenney, VA in 1947. After his Father’s death in September 1947, he farmed until 1951, the year his younger brother finished high school. He joined the Air Force in September 1951, basic training at Sampson AFB, N.Y., technical school at E.T. State Teachers College, Commerce, TX., three years in France, three months at Sampson AFB, Reno, NV. and was Honorably Discharged September 1955.
He attended E.T. State University receiving a B.S. Degree in 1958, M.A. Degree from SMU in 1962, and an Ed.D. degree from Nova University in 1975. He worked as a teacher in Dallas ISD from 1958-1966. From 1966-1989 he was a principal in the Dallas ISD, after which he retired and continued part-time work with the District.
The Rosemont Primary Library was named in his honor. He was a member of the Dallas Athletic Club and worked out, regularly, into his mid-80’s. W.C. had traveled to all of the U.S. states and overseas. His passions were reading and learning after giving up a fairly-good golf habit years ago.
He and his wife were members of the Foundation Circle at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Proceeded in death by parents W. W. Ferrell and Alsie Ferrell, 6 sisters and 2 brothers.
Survived by wife Margaret A. Ferrell, daughter Frela A. Ferrell & son W. C. Ferrell Jr. & daughter-in-law Lisa Ferrell.Grandchildren: Caitlin Ferrell, Forrest Ferrell, W.C. Ferrell III & wife Graciela Ferrell, and Aaron Ferrell. Great-grandchildren: Cayden and Easton Carlton Ferrell. Siblings: Florence Martin and Robert J. Ferrell.
