William “Bill” Henry Jones, 87, of Greenville entered eternal rest with our Savior Jesus Christ, on May 15, 2020.
He was born April 11, 1933 to Henry and Lizzie Jones.
He grew up in Brookland, Arkansas. He left the comfort of his homestead and joined the Army at a young age and often said that joining the Army was one of the best decisions he ever made because it taught him self-discipline and how to work hard. After getting out of the Army he settled in Texas and met and married Robbie Jean Smith. Bill was a jack of all trades. Although he was not formally educated, he could teach himself almost any technical skill. He worked 25 years for Greyhound Bus Lines as a bus driver. After retirement, he enjoyed being outside building barns, storage houses, working with his horses, exercising, lifting weights, and especially spending time with his all his grandkids. Bill worked hard his entire life and with the gracious help of God brought his family from a generation of poverty and ignorance to a generation of abundance and education. He was especially proud of his kids and grandkids and often would say “they were the finest young men and women around.”
Anyone who knew Bill Jones knew he was not a social man but instead he was quiet and private. In his later years, after he was diagnosed with dementia, he delightfully became more talkative, and others began to see a softer and warmer side of him. He began regularly to say, “I love you” and always wanted to hold your hand. Bill was especially blessed to have the entire Kindred Hospice team as his adopted sons and daughters, and they all loved him fiercely. He will be terribly missed by his family and all those who had the privilege to care for him.
Bill is survived by his sons, Mike and Misti Jones of Quinlan, Bud and Jill Jones of Caddo Mills, Cliff and Brooke Jones of Greenville, and Clint and Naomi Jones of Lone Oak; daughter Liz and Kenny Wiley of Caddo Mills, grandchildren, Jessica, Jarrett, Ryan, Michael, Kristi, Brayden, Bryce, Jaclyn, Bryan, Kurt, Morgan, Caroline, Matthew, and Sarah; great grandchildren Jaxon and Jayci.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, his wife Robbie Jean Jones, a precious baby son William Henry Jr, and a precious baby daughter.
