Winsell “Bubba” Mallard, 87, passed away in a Sulphur Springs hospital on Thursday, January 2, 2020.  He was born in Lone Oak, Texas to the parentage of Sherry and Inez Werts Mallard on February 1, 1932.  He received his formal education in the Lone Oak and Neylandville public schools, graduating from Saint Paul High School.  After graduation, he attended Texas College in Tyler, Texas.  He married Kay Frances Hervey and two sons – Winston and Eric – were born to this union.

Winsell moved to California in the mid-1950s.  While living there, he worked in construction, specifically in the area of plumbing.  He married Pat Christian and to this union, a daughter, Stephanie, was born.  Later he and Earnestine Crockett were married, and they established a blended family with their seven children.

In 2001, Winsell moved back to Greenville, Texas, where he remained until his death.  He united with Carter Temple C. M. E. Church under the leadership of Rev. B. Keith Thomas.  He was a member of the Men’s Chorus, the usher board, and the weekly bible study.

Loved ones left to cherish his memory:  a daughter, Stephanie Mallard of Los Angeles; a son, Winston Mallard Haynes and wife of Dallas, Texas; two stepsons, Ronald Crockett and Darryl Crockett, both of Santa Barbara, California; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Doris Haynes of Santa Barbara; three sisters, Berdine Tarver, Helen Thrash, both of Greenville, and Dorothy Brinkley of Mineola, Texas; a brother, Rev. Willie Frank Mallard of Greenville, Texas; three special nieces, Ranae Ivery Rowles, Vicki Valrita Ivery, both of Los Angeles, and Carlisa Ivery Worsham of Mansfield, Texas and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Eric Mallard Haynes, two stepsons, Alonzo and Victor Crockett, two brothers, Luther and Bill Fry and three sisters, Tessie Collins, Flennell Ivery and Mary Grace Williams.

Funeral services were held in Greenville, Texas at Carter Temple C. M. E. Church, 1404 Marshall Street, on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM.  Interment was in the Rabb Cemetery in Lone Oak, Texas
