Today we mourn the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Robert (Bob) Campbell Jr. Born to Robert Baker Campbell Sr and Willie Mae Campbell on July 11, 1934, in Tupelo, MS. Mr. Campbell passed away on July 13.
Mr. Campbell lived his childhood years farming in the Mississippi Delta, leaving home at an early age to go to Atlanta with a friend who taught him electrical work, this job led him to meeting his children’s mother Shirley Campbell in Aiken, SC. Together they had four children, Carolyn, Robyn, Bobby, and Scott Campbell.
Bob was a man of many talents; he was an intelligent man who became successful in his mid-life years. Bob was one of the few “pioneers” in the Lake Tawakoni area. He and Shirley began at Duck Cove Bait and Grocery and went on to build several other businesses at the Lake including the “infamous” Scotties. He loved NASCAR and would annually attend Daytona races, construction, gardening, building automobiles, hunting, reading, and the news. He sought to learn many things that became advantageous to him, he was gifted and knowledgeable in numerous trades; hard work and ingenuity helped him to be successful in everything he pursued. He was a mechanical wizard, an accomplished carpenter, and a “doer” of many things. Bob loved country life and he found pleasure in helping others that were less fortunate. He was an avid and dedicated animal lover! He took in numerous strays, abandoned and injured animals, and gave them their best life. He enjoyed telling jokes, and stories and making people laugh.
Bob was a complex man and expected the best from those closest to him. He loved his children and grandchildren although he was not the most affectionate type of person, he was “just who he was” and he was loved regardless. He was proud of each of his children in his own way and never neglected to help them even into their adult years. Bob was a caring, creative, intelligent, witty, and tenacious man. His humor, his criticisms, his opinions and his words of wisdom will be sorely missed.
