Billy Joe Ivey was a beloved and endeared husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend during his 89 years of life. Billy Joe passed away on the morning of Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

Born in Merit, TX on May 28, 1934, Billy was born to Sam and Edna Ivey. As the youngest of 3 brothers, he took on responsibilities at home at the young age of 16 after his dad passed. He began work for Coca-Cola the same year, where he worked for 22 years. He met his bride, Helen Davis, in Greenville, TX, and was married on June 1, 1957. Shortly after, Billy was drafted into the Army where he selflessly served 6 years. After his time in the Army, Billy drove an 18-wheeler for Lance for 25 years before he retired. He was acknowledged for driving over two million miles, accident and ticket-free, and received many safety and excellence in driving awards.

Billy loved to work on antique cars and trucks. One of his great pleasures was working on his ’48 Chevrolet 5-window pickup. He loved to play cards and dominoes. Billy Joe enjoyed taking his son hunting and fishing and passed down his passion for restoring antique cars. He loved reading and watching westerns. He was a great friend, a people person, and was incredibly mechanically inclined. Billy Joe loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Billy Joe was preceded in death by Sam and Edna Ivey, and brothers, Aubrey Jack Ivey and J.B. Ivy.

Billy Joe is survived by his wife, Helen Ivey, son, Sidney Ivey and his wife, Amy Ivey, grandchildren, Lauren Hewitt and her husband, Matthew Hewitt, Samantha and Gavin Ivey, and great-grandchildren, Mattison and Myla Hewitt.

Services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be at Caddo Mills IOOF Cemetery in Caddo Mills.
