Lester Franklin Starkey, 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on December 13, 2019 at his residence. A memorial service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Combs officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 A.M. until service time. Burial will be in Celeste Cemetery.
Mr. Starkey was born on April 7, 1935 in Cooper, Texas to Asa Lester Starkey and Minnie Jewel Cathey. He married Cecilia Ann Hagan on April 9, 1977 in Greenville, Texas. He was a member of the Army National Guard. He worked for Farm Bureau- Hunt County and Century 21 in Lake Cypress Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Ann Starkey of Mt. Vernon; son, Tommy Sumrow of Greenville; daughter, Pam Gooch of Kilgore; eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Mike Starkey and Timmy Sumrow, two sisters, Mattie Lou Burgess and Jeanette Tramel.
