John Melvin Little 82 of Greenville, Texas passed away on October 24, 2022. He was born on November 1, 1939, to William “Bill” E. and Mildred (Frank) Little in Greenville, Texas.
John grew up in Greenville. He married Betty Morris on April 12, 1968. He was an active and dedicated member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas
In June 1958 he became employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a part-time flexible clerk-carrier. In August of 1960 he was promoted to full time clerk. In July of 1962, John joined the U.S. Navy, and he served on the USS Orlek for two years off the shore of Vietnam. In April 1967 he returned to Greenville post office as a full-time clerk. In April 1971 he was promoted to Supervisor of Mail Processing and Delivery Service. In July 1973 he was promoted to Assistant Postmaster. On August 13, 1978, he was promoted to Postmaster of Greenville, Texas, and the Postmaster over the Mail Processing Center covering all of zip code 754. In 1986 he was awarded the Dallas Division Award of Excellence, and in 1989 he was awarded Dallas Division Postmaster “Gold Star.” From 1989 – 1993 he served as the head of Dallas Division “Function Four” Efficiency Team. On December 28, 1994, he retired as Postmaster after having served 17 years, and 5 months. When appointed Postmaster, he was the youngest at 37 years old, to have ever served Postmaster in Greenville, Texas.
John is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Jeff Little and wife Jennifer; daughters, Cristi Duke and husband, Joe, Julie Davis; grandchildren, Bayleigh Manning and husband Caleb, Isabeau Dixon and husband Dylan, Courtney Wacasey and Jonah Carson, Josie Kurien, Jonathan Little, Isaac Duke, and Margot Little; six great grandchildren; along with a host of loving relatives and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Barbara Stephens.
John leaves lasting and wonderful memories for his family and friends.
The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Lynch Funeral Service in Greenville, Texas. The Visitation will begin one hour prior at 9:00 AM on the same day also located at Lynch Funeral Service in Greenville. Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Stephens, Caleb Manning, John Norton, Dylan Dixon, Jim Lara, and Jonathan Little.
