Avo Gladys Irene Petty (Irene), 98, went to heaven on January 4, 2021 after a short non-Covid related illness at Hunt Regional Hospital in Greenville. She was a resident at Briarcliff Health Center in Greenville. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later time.
Irene was born on November 2, 1922 in Hunt County. She was the daughter of Clem L. & Altie Parish, had 2 brothers, Harrell & C.L. Parish, and 1 sister Bernice Poe who all preceded her in death. Irene married William G. (Bill) Petty Sr. while he was serving in the US Army just prior to the start of World War II. Later in life they had 2 sons, William Jr. & Mike. Mike & his wife Pam of Greenville, along with her 3 children & their families and several nieces and nephews are the only surviving family members. William Sr. was retired from Lone Star Gas and passed in 1973 at the age of 68, & William Jr. from Gilbert, AZ passed in 2020 at the age of 66.
Irene was a hard-working wife, mother, & keeper of the family. She retired from Walmart in Greenville many years ago. She has continued to live at the family home until she became a resident at Briarcliff just a couple of years ago. She was a Baptist & lived her life led by that faith. Irene loved puzzles, crafts, & crocheting. While at Briarcliff she passed the time making crochet gifts for her new friends and teaching others how to crotchet. Irene is now at home with her Lord & savior, Jesus Christ, where she has been prepared to go at his calling for many years.
