David Bremner Slemmons was born November 6th 1959 at McClellen USAF Base in Sacramento CA, died September 8th 2021 in HRH in Greenville TX
David had an ideal childhood riding around in the backseat of his parent’s car with his 3 siblings on a big trip around the USA & Canada with his USAF Dad & Mom. He resided in 7 states during this time. As a child, he was a good student and excelled in Judo, swimming, diving, and bike-riding. He was a member of a pioneer Hunt Co. Family out of Lone Oak as well as the son of a Canadian immigrant.
David was a framing carpenter. He could set a nail with one stroke and could read complex plans. He also farmed and ranched with his grandfather and Dad driving tractors and trucks by age 12. Being a hard worker was very important to David. He had an amazing compass in his mind and always knew where N, S, E & W were. He was a gentle giant most of the time. As a teenager, David carried a bleeding 150 lb. friend 300 feet to a truck when they were cutting firewood with chainsaws. He likely saved his friend’s life.
David suffered from mental illness all of his adult life and was institutionalized for many years. With much treatment from the State of TX and Lakes MHMR, he was able to live a happy life the last eight years in Greenville TX.
David’s parents EJ & Catherine Slemmons died in February of 2013, an infant great-nephew Axle Cole in 2016, and sister-in-law Cheryl Slemmons in 2020. He leaves to mourn his loss Aunt- Jean Turner of McKinney, Brother- Ted (Becky) Slemmons of Lufkin, sister Bonnie (Timothy) Dooley of Greenville, brother Scott Slemmons of Richardson, nieces Dawn & Colleen Dooley (Isaiah Heck), niece Stephanie (Kyle) Cole of Lufkin, nephew Jeremy (Betsy) Slemmons of Kyle, 3 great-nephews, 2 great-nieces and his housemate Richard Sumrow.
