Fred Allen Lummus, 86, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 5, 2023 in Greenville, Texas. Fred was born in Dallas, Texas to Sara Louise Morrow and Howard Herschel Lummus on October 2, 1937. He graduated from Ennis High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1961. While still attending SMU, he began working at LTV/E-Systems and continued with the company in some capacity for more than 40 years until his retirement from L3 in Waco, TX.

Fred married Eunice Kathyreen Shields on December 18, 1966, who preceded him in death on December 29, 1993. They had one daughter. Fred enjoyed working with computers and writing programs even in his spare time. He also painted abstract pictures. Because he was colorblind, Fred used a limited color palette of cobalt blue, cadmium yellow, cadmium red, black and white, along with straight lines and sharp angles to capture the unique way he viewed the world. Other hobbies included genealogy research, geocaching, and Jeeps. For every hobby or interest, you can be sure he also wrote some sort of computer program or created a spreadsheet catalog.

Fred later married Maurinda Woods on September 10, 1994. When she preceded him in death in 2014, he returned to Greenville after living in Waco for 20 years. He soon made his home at Colonial Lodge and dubbed himself “The Resident Hermit”. He took great joy when people would ask if he was “new” on the rare occasions he ventured out of his room. However, those who got the chance, knew him to be witty, clever, and not nearly as reclusive as he let on.

Fred is survived by daughter, Denyse Bench and husband, Joel; grandchildren: Hannah Henderson and husband, Jordan, and Hallie Bench; and 2 great-grandsons: Judah and Owen Henderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Eunice Lummus, and second wife Maurinda Lummus.

Fred will be laid to rest with a private family observance at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville, Texas.
