Fred Ray Samuel passed on to his heavenly home and into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and his beautiful wife, Vera Lynn on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
Fred was born November 8, 1934, to Bruce and Vona Brucilla Duke Samuel in Ladonia, Texas.
He graduated from Ladonia High School. He served in the US Army for two years during the Korean Era.
He and Vera Lynn Parsons were united in marriage on June 15, 1957, at the First Baptist Church in Ladonia. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Alan Dale, who now lives in Powderly, Texas.
Fred worked in the Business Management field and retired from Woody’s Convenience Stores after 37 years of service. After retirement, Fred joined his wife in conducting and assisting in Estate Sales throughout Hunt County. He was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church where he served on numerous committees within the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, William Paul, Bobby Jake and B. W., Jr.; and six sisters, Mildred Roberts, Juanita Burnett, Martha Houchin, Fayra Bankston, Brucilla York, and Jean Logsdon.
Survivors include his son, Alan Samuel and wife, Kara of Powderly; three granddaughters, Renee Coston and husband, Kyle of Powderly, Lauren Samuel of Paris and Taylor Samuel of Powderly. Seven great-grandchildren, Travis Coston and wife, Jaci, Kenley Coston, Kendra Earls, Kamille Earls, Ada Samuel, Cassius Jones and Kyra Jones. One great-great-grandson, Carter Gray Coston of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Funeral services for Fred will be under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home. Services will be held in the chapel on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Royce Litchfield officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vorice Self, Jim Woodruff, Martin Strand, Jimmy Sherer, Amos Lowry, and Ray Kuykendall.
