Helon  Johnson, of Greenville, Texas passed away on September 18, 2023 at the age of 98.  Helon was born November 19, 1924 in Waco, Texas Learlee and Charles Murray.  Helon had two older brothers, Charles Murray and Hershel Murray. All above are deceased.

In 1940, Helon met the love of her life, Howard Johnson.  They had their first date August 2, 1940.  Soon after Howard and Helon met, Howard joined the U.S. Navy.  Howard came home on leave in 1943, he asked Helon to marry him, they were married in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 14, 1943.  Howard went back to the war zone; they were together 23 days out of 29 months when Howard returned from the war zone.

On January 14, 1946 God blessed the Johnsons with a precious gift, a beautiful baby girl they named Cindy. On January 26, 1951, God had another special gift for the Johnsons, a handsome bouncing baby boy and they named him Doyle.  The Johnsons lived in and traveled many foreign countries.  After Howard’s retirement, the Johnsons came to Greenville, Texas. Howard worked for L-3, and both Cindy and Doyle met their mate in Greenville and married. Cindy married Phil Prather in 1970, they have one son, Todd Prather.  Doyle has two daughters, Briana Johnson and Raven Johnson.

Helon and Howard celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at Highland Terrace Baptist Church in March 2013.  Howard passed away March 28, 2013; they had been married 70 years and 14 days.  Today they are celebrating together again in Heaven.

Those surviving Helon are: daughter, Cindy Prather and husband, Phil; son, Doyle Johnson; grandchildren, Todd Prather and wife Heather, Briana Stringer, Raven Johnson and husband, Eric Price; great-grandchildren, Tanner Prather and Brylan Hill.

Funeral Service for Helon is at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville, Texas.  A visitation will begin one hour prior at 1:00 pm.  Interment will follow the funeral at Lynch Memorial Park in Greenville, Texas. Pastor Gene Smith will preside over the funeral service and Pastor Clint Graham will preside over the committal service at Graveside.
