James Gwendolyn Layton, age 91, of Quinlan, Texas. Visitation on Saturday, December 4th, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., Service to follow at 12:00 P.M., in the Chapel of Ingram Funeral Home. Interment following the service at Shanks Cemetery at County Rd. 950, Teague, Texas 75860.
Gwen was born to James Floyd Layton and Lela Etta Bell on July 19, 1930, in Freestone County, Texas. He enjoyed farming and gardening, he was a master of grower the largest and sweetest onions, he also mastered the art of growing tomatoes. And he taught gardening. Gwen had many talents that he mastered, and he could fix anything that was broken, and would make wood and metals, a piece of art. He was a perfectionist and built his own house, while enjoying his boat and telling fish stories. He was a member of the Lake Tawakoni Camping Club. Some knew him as husband, father, brother, grandfather.
Survived by sons; Brad, Kent, Randy and wife Debra of Quinlan, Gwen G. and wife Ann of Morgan Mills, brothers; Paul Ray of Waco, Johnny Joe and wife Evenda of Teague, grandchildren; James Lloyd and wife Rachael of Bryan Texas, Christopher Michael and wife Marta of Herdon Virginia, Lauren White and husband Travis of Quinlan, and Cy Randal and wife Anna of Princeton Texas, Cynthia Shelton and husband Dr. Bob of Collinsville Texas, and Gary Layton and wife of Morgan Mills Texas. 6 greatgrandchildren and one on the way and one great-greatgrandchild.
Preceded in death by his wife Ruth a Layton, brother, Donald Layton, and parents, James and Lela.
The man that had plenty to do will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
