James (Jim) Arnold Mayberry, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died unexpectedly in Quinlan, TX, on Thursday, January 16th, 2020, at the age of 73.
James was born on January 4th, 1947 in Weatherford, TX, the only child of James Herbert and Lois Larene Mayberry. He graduated from Quinlan High School in 1965. James served his country honorably with both the Navy and the Marines, including three tours in Vietnam. James received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State University. After a long and fulfilling career, James retired from his position as Director of Maintenance for Quinlan ISD. During the course of his life, James also served as Mayor and as City Judge for the city of Quinlan. Never content with being idle, James continued to work alongside his son and daughter in their family business up until his untimely death.
James married the love of his life, Linda Kay Turner, on December 10th, 1968, a marriage that would endure for over half of a century, and together they built a family of which he was eternally proud. James was a proud Master Mason with Trestle Board Masonic Lodge No. 534 in Quinlan, TX, as well as Hella Shrine Center in Garland, TX. James was a skilled musician; he particularly enjoyed his many years of playing guitar with The Rounders, which he formed with friends in the early 1980s, and with the Hella Directors Staff Band.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his daughter, Danna Michelle Mayberry of Quinlan, TX, and son and his spouse, James Kevin and Jessica Leigh Mayberry of Honey Grove, TX; and four grandchildren, Kevin Clay Mayberry (and wife, Aubrey Nicole), Alexandria Michelle Spillers, Brinkleigh Madison Mayberry, and Joshua Colten Mayberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as by his grandson, James Colton Mayberry.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in James’ name to Shriners Hospital for Children or Scottish Rite Hospital.
