John Joseph Patrick Malone, 64, of Greenville, passed peacefully at home on the evening of September 18, 2023. John was born on February 11, 1959, in Manhattan, New York, to Joan Maureen Goff and John Joseph Malone.

John went by several names, JJ, John Boy, and Granddad to name a few. He was a proud member of the U.S. Air Force; he was an active member of the American Legion. Before his death, he started attending Prairie Valley Baptist Church in Campbell. John liked playing baseball, working on airplanes, and watching car races where he held lifetime seats to every race of the season. John was always down to see his friends and would often call them his ‘brothers’. He loved German Shepherds and had several throughout his life, but what he loved above all was his grandkids. To many people, he was a gruff Yankee, but when his grandkids were with him, he turned into a teddy bear. John loved his Air Force brothers, affectionately known as the Balcony Bums, who were stationed together in the Philippines. He and one of these brothers shared a love of Steely Dan.

John is survived by his daughters: Elizabeth Malone, Stacie Malone, and Starla Shinn and husband Donald; grandchildren: Olivia, Noah, Bryson, Rylan, Kelsey, and Kenzie; brothers: Michael Malone and Richard Malone; sister, Mary Ellen Malone; nephew: Richard Malone, Christopher Malone, and Jeramy Marinelli; niece, Megan Malone; and numerous friends, acquaintances, and all of his other “brothers”.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Joan Maureen and John Joseph Malone.

A memorial service will be held at Lynch Funeral Service in Greenville at a later date.
