John William Ballard, Jr., 86, of Greenville, Texas, passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on the evening of July 30, 2023. John was born December 25, 1936, in Commerce, Texas to Lottie Pickle and John William Ballard, Sr.
John was called to serve the Lord in any way he could offer. He was a dedicated member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church for over 45 years. John could often be found volunteering his time at the church by taking care of the gardens, working as a door greeter, helping in Awanas, and serving as a deacon. He also loved serving his community by being part of the Golden Kiwanis, and Hands of Compassion where he would help provide food and clothes for those in need. John worked as a railroad engineer for 31 years before retiring. Above all else, John was a family man and loved his family dearly.
John is survived by his children: Stephanie Quick and husband John, and Jason Ballard and wife Veronica; grandchildren: Joseph Quick and wife Ashley, Shayna Ash and husband Brent, Chaz Ballard, Garett Ballard, Hayden Ballard, A.J. Ballard, and Calli Ballard; great-grandchildren: Addie Quick, Lawson Quick, Maggie Jo Quick, and Mabel Ash; and sister, Genetty Childers; along with a host of loving extended family and several friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen Ballard, brother Tim Ballard, and sisters, Wenonna Melton, and Catherine Speight.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 7, at 10:00 AM, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church located in Greenville, Texas with Mark Wade leading the service. A visitation will be held Sunday evening, August 6, from 5:00-7:00 PM, at the Lynch Funeral Service Chapel in Greenville, Texas. John will be laid to rest at Memoryland Memorial Park with his wife, Helen.
