Graveside services for Kaye “Big Mama” Smart Slemmons, 89, of Lone Oak, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at Hall Cemetery in Lone Oak, with Bro. Jeff Jackson officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Lone Oak.
Mrs. Slemmons passed away on March 17, 2022, in Greenville. She was born July 28, 1932, in Lufkin to Charlie and Molly Smart. She lived in Lone Oak most of her life and was a member of and the organist for the Lone Oak United Methodist Church. Kaye graduated from Lone Oak High School in 1949. She attended East Texas State Teachers College, where she was a music major. She played first chair violin in the symphony orchestra. On November 7, 1952, she married Kenneth Slemmons. Kaye was also a member of the Eastern Star in Quinlan, the Methodist Women, and she and her husband were leaders of the MYF. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of almost 68 years, Kenneth “Big Daddy” Slemmons; son, Mike Slemmons; and great-grandson, Nathan Slemmons.
Survivors include her son, James Joseph Slemmons of Kaufman; daughter, Sherry Alesa Colburn of Lone Oak; twelve grandchildren, Jimmie Slemmons, Charlie Wallace, Mike Slemmons, Christi Kilgore, Jeramy Slemmons, Sherry Gibson, Kasey Culley, Lacy Astorga, Shank Payne, Jake Otts, Amber Slemmons, and Roper Huddleston; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Kilgore, Ethan Slemmons, Tyler Culley, Micah Kilgore, Aden Slemmons, Jaxon Wallace, Frankie Payne, Major Wallace, and Saint Slemmons.
